As well as offering a matched consort
of flutes after Claude Rafi (Lyons, d.1553),
we also make this thicker alto/tenor flute after a boxwood
original in Brussels.
Its fabulous rich sound and relatively strong low register
make the Rafi tenor flute well suited for playing by itself
or with the accompaniment of a harmony instrument such as
lute, harpsichord, or organ. It can also easily hold its own
in a mixed consort with voices, strings, cornetts and trombones.
We can supply Rafi tenor flutes to play at any of the pitches
described in the order form below. Please bear in mind that
though the lower pitches sound most attractive, pitches below
392 require a very large finger stretch.
Ardal Powell, solo flute (our discontinued
2-piece Bologna Rafi at a=392, applewood).
Jk. Jacob van Eyck, Preludium ofte Voorspel from Der
Fluyten Lust-Hof (Amsterdam: Paulus Matthyszoon, 1646). Recording
